What Is Fear Free?

Fear Free is a program to alleviate fear and anxiety through education. Fear Free provides education to veterinary professionals, pet professionals and pet owners. Our team members at Crossroads Mobile Vet are all Fear Free certified. In order to become certified as Fear Free you must complete courses designed by veterinary and pet experts around the world. These experts include: boarded veterinary behaviorists, boarded veterinary anesthesiologists, pain experts, boarded veterinary internists, veterinary technicians, experts in shelter medicine, animal training, grooming, boarding, etc.

The Fear Free mission:

"Our mission is to prevent and alleviate fear, anxiety, and stress in pets by inspiring and educating the people who care for them."

Fear Free in veterinary practice aims to do the following:

  • Reduce or remove anxiety triggers

  • Help owners keep pets calm during veterinary visits

  • Enhance the quality of medicine

  • Improve safety for you and our team

Fear Free educates in the stress response, body language, positive reinforcement, behavior modification and perception of social and physical environments. We understand that your pet's behaviors are connected to their predatory, prey and social relationships. Every reaction or emotion your pet has is designed to protect themselves. We want to reinforce that even during veterinary care your pet is safe. Essentially the objective is communication. Vet visits can be nerve-wracking to your pet and we want to create the most comfortable experience possible.

Fear Free helps train pet professionals to identify and reduce stressors. Every individual is prone to different stressors which include any experience, environment, inanimate, or living object that disrupts normal functioning. Stressful experiences can cause physiologic and behavior changes that have a negative impact on healing. Reducing stress promotes health and wellness.

Our goal at Crossroads Mobile Vet is to make every vet visit as positive as possible. We will communicate with you to create the best plan for your pet's individual needs. Rather than have your pet associate us with vaccines and medications, we want your fur-baby to associate us with positivity (treats, toys, attention, etc). We do not want your pet to be afraid of any aspect of the vet visit. In order to reassure your baby that they can trust us we will work to maintain a lifelong positive relationship.

At every visit we will examine your pet in their preferred location with their favorite food distraction. We will take your pet's perspective into consideration and of course treat them with the same love we would our own. We are more than happy to answer any questions you may have and look forward to Fear Free visits with you.
